About
Hi! My name is Sameer. I love reading books. Books! My favorite being the popular science variety. I’d always been fascinated by the written word especially science; but it was slowly and systematically suppressed by the institution we all know as ‘School’. But thankfully my love for science was rekindled by Carl Sagan’s Cosmos; a poetic and iridescent exploration of science. When the partisans of education were brainwashing us with chemical formulas and physical theories without an iota of passion to share, Sagan’s ‘Cosmos’ opened with these wonderful lines – ‘The cosmos is all that is or ever will be. Our feeblest contemplations of the cosmos stir us-“.
I was hooked for life. A spate of books followed; Broca’s Brain, The Dragons of Eden
, Mr Tompkins in Paperback
etc. It was an enchanting world.
Currently begin a programmer leaves little time to stay abreast of all the wonderful books released, but I try.
This site is for people who love science, love reading science books; it is also for those newbie’s who would like to wet their toes in the vast ocean of scientific knowledge.
I would like to close with the wonderful ending lines of ‘Cosmos’:
For we are the local embodiment of a Cosmos grown to self-awareness. We have begun to contemplate our origins; star stuff pondering the stars; organized assemblages of ten billion billion billion atoms considering the evolution of atoms; tracing the long journey by which, here at least, consciousness arose. Our loyalties are to the species and the planet. We speak for Earth. Our obligation to survive is owed not just to ourselves but also to that Cosmos, ancient and vast, from which we spring.
